Include Willumsen’s Museum as a colourful stopover on your tour of northern Zealand

There are lots of fascinating things to experience in the vicinity of Willumsen Museum. You can combine the museum visit with an ‘action tour’ in the old Ådalen gravel quarry, fill in with more museum visits, for example to the Frederikssund Museum or Jægerspris Castle. You can take a walk in the footsteps of the Vikings and go on a sailing tour of the fjord, or a cycling tour out into the blue along the many fine bicycle paths along the fjord. The possibilities are many and you decide for yourself. But we have provided some help for you along the way and have a number of suggestions for a fun day in Frederikssund – with or without children.

By car

If you come by car, all the options are open. We have gathered a few suggestions with the focus on culture, nature and good food in Frederikssund. You will find instructions for driving to the museum; and then it’s just a matter of picking and choosing among the many fine excursions that together form the starting point for a day full of experiences.

By train

If you come by train you can choose either to walk through the charming town centre of Frederikssund to the J.F. Willumsen Museum, and spend the day surrounded by contrast-filled architecture, beautiful landscape and colourful artworks – or you can hire a bike from Fri Cykler a few hundred metres from the station and expand your range of destinations.

By bike

On your bike you can really get around. We have drawn up suggestions for tours that can take you to the beach park at Marbæk, through the scenic Ådal to the old “gravel quarry” with campfire sites, climbing tours of the hills, a fishing lake and shelters. You can also take the iron horse to Hansen’s old ice cream dairy or through the beautiful landscape of Kulhuse with the ferry to Sølager and Hundested Harbour.
